Calling All Junior Reporters…

As part of Cine-Fest we are running a Junior Reporter competition for budding reporters aged 12 years and under. To enter, download a Press Pass from here..  Fill in the pass and bring it along to the movie of your choice. Get it stamped as you enter the movie, and then write us a movie review (you may want to bring your reporter’s pencil and paper to take notes!) You can enter reviews of as many movies as you like – just make sure you complete a press pass for each and get it stamped as you enter. The entries will be judged in 2 age categories and the winning entries will be printed in the next issue of West Of The Taieri. The winners will receive a Movie voucher. Remember, you can see which movies we are screening and what time they are on by following the Events / cine-fest links.

Thanks to The Otago Masonic Charitable Trust

Su and Raelene attended a function held by the Otago Masonic Charitable Trust to accept a grant on behalf of the OCT. We are very grateful to The Otago Masonic Charitable Trust for generously granting us the funds for the safety matting for the Ollie Boards in the Skerries Street playground. Pictured here from left to right are Su Miller (OCT), Doug Fairhurst, Master of the Lodge St John Mosgiel, Raelene Gruppelaar (OCT) and Alistair Church, Secretary, Lodge St John Mosgiel.  Thanks again to the Otago Masonic Charitable Trust . I know that both Su and Raelene enjoyed the function also.

Movies Galore..

Not sure what the correct collective noun for movies is but we certainly have a plethora of them confirmed for Cine-Fest now… we were hoping for something for everyone and I think we’ve done a pretty good job (all credit to Lisa – I dread to think of the debt of favours she has run up in the name of Cine-Fest) For the family and kids we have Bugsy Malone The Secret Of Moonacre Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs To appeal to the 16+ audience we’ll be showing Scarfies We’ll also be showing a couple of doco’s.. Food Inc investigates the dark secrets of the American Food Industry In This Way of Life, a ” captivating, visually ravishing doco, we watch Peter and his wife Colleen over an eventful four years as they do whatever it takes to provide emotional security and a life in harmony with nature for their six children.” Our dramas are Little Women Sunshine Cleaning Company Check out the trailers on the Cine-Fest page under Events.. The screening schedule will be published very soon – do come along to enjoy the movies on offer and support our causes by buying as many raffle tickets as you can along with pop corn and soft drinks of course!

Next up… Cine-Fest

Well, the AGM has been and gone (Minutes can be found under the Meetings link on this site) and next up is the Cine-Fest.. We’ll be turning Outram Church Hall into a cinema for a few days from 3rd July.. the start of the school holidays.. The Saturday night special will be a screening of Bugsy Malone – this is a great family musical about warring gangsters at a time when the invention of the splurge gun was changing the face of custard flinging battles… dress up in your best 1930s / gangster outfits and come and join us. Another confirmed movie is Scarfies which will be an evening screening for the older generation More children and family movies to be confirmed.. Bring a cushion, bring a blanket and come and enjoy an Outram cinema experience.. Look out for more details on this website and on posters / newsletters in a couple of weeks…

OCT Public Meeting

Thanks to all who turned out for our first public meeting held in the Church Hall on May 11th. It was great to be able to share our vision, and also we were pleased to have Charlotte Flaherty from the DCC join us to discuss car pooling initiatives, as well as Barry Barbour who filled us in on the role of the Mosgiel Taieri Community Board and some of the great things they have been doing for us. Here is the presentation I gave on the evening
